Speak English Like an American

I bet that every student who learnt English in the university have the ability to speak, write and produce and also listen and understand it means to receive the speech spoken in English but what if this English was an American one would be the same amount of understanding, absolutely no! we can’t understand the American Speaker because the English we learnt about in the universities and educational establishment was a standard English or the British one, as an illustration if you take a Us Magazine US news as an example you will definitely lose when you encounter some expressions which are strange to you because you never heard about them in the school another example watching an American movies won’t be easy to interpret it because they use the same strange expressions; brothers and sisters welcome to the 2nd key of understanding American native speaker! The Idioms or the Idiomatic expressions.

Idioms are expressions that make your L a n g u a g e difficult for those who don’t know the idioms; Idioms make your English familiar and not awkward to the native speakers. Students of English try to translate the idiom word by word but in the end it will be a scrabble and nonsense. Idioms works as a groups of words, not individually so as much you try to translate them you will miss the meaning. Oxford dictionary for advanced learners defines Idiom as: “a group of words whose meaning is different from the meanings of the individual word”. How come this? Look at these examples:
A: you’re not my real friend; you always give me the cold shoulder why you do that to me?
B: oh please my friend, I did not mean that I just realized that I went belly-up, they ruined my business I’m…….
  • Gave me the cold shoulder…if you try to translate it word by word you will find it meaningless but the native speaker understand what its meaning because they got used with them they know what they mean here the (1) means to treat Sb in an unfriendly way.
  • Went belly-up! Another idiom with another meaning if you try to translate you will find it meaningless too because belly is a part of a body up a preposition went a verb, Native speakers mean using it to fail completely, or to go bankrupt.
Brothers and Sisters I would like to present a book which will solve the problem of misunderstanding a native speaker and becoming a fluent speaker like the American speaker. Ladies and gentlemen here is the book Speak English like an Americans (learn the idioms & expressions that will help you speak like a native!)

This book deals with the expressions and idioms for about 300 idioms are illustrated with daily life examples that will help realizing them and keeping them in your mind. This book is about 25 lessons divided into 5 units or sequences, every lesson with examples, Illustrations and an exercise. Each sequence ends with a crossword game and an exercise, and the book itself ends with a big puzzle or a crossword about the idioms.

Note:
Hello, my name is Karim I read it this book in the year 2008 it means when I was a 2nd year English student exactly the year my English started to develop, I was a beginner at that time. It took me 2 weeks to end it and I studied every single idiom with it examples I did every single exercise without looking to the keys I got 10/10 for every Exercise, unit sequence crossword and the last crossword was so much pleasing I got 10/10 and I still have the copybook I used to use it learning this book.

Tips:
You deserve it too let’s give it a try together, I want to re-read it again because I forget for 50 % of what I’ve learnt from this nice book then I’ll try to read it again with you. Let’s read it and if you liked it we’ll make a special thread for playing the crosswords game concluding Idioms only what do you think?
